Hi everyone.
I'm new to the group but have been reading many of your stories and finding hope with the positives and sending my best wishes to all of you going through such difficult situations. My heart goes out to you all.
I wonder if you can please help. My poor wee Mum has been diagnosed in the past year with breast cancer (being treated by drugs) and rectal cancer. She had not long finished 25 chemoradiation treatments when she had trouble swallowing and she has now been diagnosed with oesophageal cancer. All are primary cancers. It's been a heck of a rollercoaster year! We don't yet know too much other than in a call from the Upper GI specialist nurse who said they are likely to offer her chemotherapy, radiotherapy and have said she will likely need a feeding tube. She's not sure she want to go through more treatment and I think the feeding tube is scaring her most. Can I please ask if they are awful or do you get used to them ok and how long she may need 1 for? She doesn't really want to find anything out but if I can pass on some
positive news, it might help her. Thanks so much. I just want to keep her here as long as I can.

Hi Susan, a sad welcome to the group.
I haven't found out yet about my own way forward following a diagnosis of OC. Got a meeting Wednesday.
So, I cannot answer your question about the feeding tube but no doubt someone will be able to advise you.
Please give your mum my best wishes and tell her from me to keep fighting. Sounds like she has had an awful time but got through it so far.
It's sounds like you've been through the mill too. Take care of yourself and keep posting.
Thanks GeoFerret for your kind reply and I'll certainly pass on your good wishes to my Mum, thank you. I'm so sorry to hear that you don't yet know about your own way forward. The waiting is oh so tough but I truly hope you get some positive news on Wednesday. Best wishes to you and your family.
Hi Nick, thanks for asking. I'm pleased to report good news. T3N1M0. Operable.
They're hoping to get me in for the bike test to check my heart next week. Then staging laparoscopy possibly the week after. If that's all ok, followed by chemo, op and chemo.
All fixed for Christmas....just like that...lol.
So pleased to be able to tell my family at last. Not an easy task.
Think I might get caravan withdrawal symptoms over the next few months though...lol.
Hi Geo
That's really good that its operable. I had the same staging so looks like we're following the same treatment plan. These months will not be easy. Just to say the supportive drugs make chemo's side effects much easier to deal with. Some people have minimal side effects. Hopefully with it going into summer you'll be able to get some vitamin D.
Take care
Suzy.
