Hi ,been diagnosed bout a month and having operation on 6th April, any body in same situation
Hi Blade Dave, I had exactly the same back in January 2021 and I can honestly say that for about a year I felt quite weak but after that I started making a full recovery. I’m now walking my dog twice a day and I usually walk about 5 miles. I’m on Famatodine for acid reflux but that’s all. It’s really strange never feeling hungry and you have to remember to eat, oh and I do have a cough every time I eat anything which is annoying and embarrassing but otherwise I’m fine. I’m female,68 years old and doing well. I wish you all the best and hope all goes well for you.
Hi
I had my operation in October unfortunately I did have some complications which has affected my recovery but I have just finished my second course of chemo. I was in hospital about 5 weeks and my feeding tube was taken out just before I left. I have lost about 3 stone since leaving hospital and although much slower I am still losing weight. Before I started chemo I was feeling a lot better and walking my dogs for an hour or more as well as more mundane things like food shopping.
i would say in prep enjoy what food you can eat and be as active as you can it will all help for after. It’s not a quick recovery physically but I think the changes to your eating, bowels etc. takes the longest to get used to.
I was told recovery is expected to be about six months but this is very dependent and individual.
Good luck
As far as I'm aware they removing most of oesophagus and pulling stomach up ,I'm subconsciously eating like mad at moment, always wanting more ,think it's cos I know I won't be eating for a whilst ,worse part for me is the waiting for the date ,how are you coping ?
Hi Bladedave, I think it was only for about 3 weeks the feeding tube but it really was uncomfortable so I begged to have it removed. I had to have about 4 stretching procedures after my operation but the last one seemed to work well. I was nine and a half stone when I went in and came out at seven four. I’m now hovering around eight stone, it’s quite difficult to put weight on as you’re limited as to how much you can eat, plus I never feel hungry so I have to try and remember when it’s time.
