Hi all,

Just introducing myself.

I'm early 60's male just diagnosed with stage 2a and had a stent inserted - not really certain what the journey ahead will involve as I'm not going to google anything - there's too much horror out there already - but suffice to say very apprehensive, in pain and discomfort, massive rapid weight loss and unsure what to do next - hence me registering here.

Be gentle with me, It's all a bit overwhelming

  • Hi

I am sorry to hear this.  I found it all overwhelming and still do to be honest.  This web site has some good information to give you an overview.

For me the route was 4 cycles of chemo, which luckily shrunk the tumour, an op to remove the tumour, then 4 more cycles of chemo.  I have had my op and I’m expecting to have more chemo in January.  The good news is after the op I am now cancer free which feels great.  The side effects from the op are definitely a lot to get used to though!

i believe at one stage or another we all lose weight but the GI team should help with this.  I have found that once you start treatment the support has been good ( I was at St. Thomas’s in London).

I hope this helps a little, it may not feel like it but you are not alone.

    take care

  • Hi, my husband is at the same stage as you, 2 weeks after his surgery. Had the histology results, all clear! Got quite a while before he has a follow-up oncology appointment, End of January.  So not sure if he's going to have further chemotherapy or when. Lots of waiting.  He's at Addenbrookes,  Cambridgeshire.  So far he's put o  weight!
