Hi, I'm new to this group.
My Husband was diagnosed back In June and had his operation two weeks ago. Whilst relieved to have him home just 7 days after such a major operation I now feel a bit abandoned and not sure where to turn for help and advice hence joining this group.
Although he is now managing some foods and small walks with me and the dog he is still in a lot of pain, discomfort and low mood. Sleeping is proving the most challenging. Everytime he attempts to lay down he just starts coughing. We have tried not eating/drinking anything 2 hours before bed, propping him up with pillows but nothing seems to work. Is this normal? Will it get better?
Any help or advice to get us both more that 2 hours sleep at night would be greatly appreciated!
Melanie
I had operation about 18 months ago. Really good now but had similar problems at first. I propped mattress up and plenty of pillars. Pain relief was given through my local doctors until I didn't require it. Also just had small meals regularly. I still have plenty of pillars now. I used spare bedroom to start with it helped partner sleep. Don't worry too much about normal sleep times or food times to start with. Just as and when. I found swimming pool accelerated my recovery. Hope this helps. If not sure ring Macmillan they're really helpful. Cheers Dave.
Hi Melanie
Welcome to the group, things must have been very difficult for you watching your husband go through all of this, and enduring the wait of him going through surgery must have been quite scary, it us understandable that you feel a bit abandoned now.
There are groups for Carers , Family & Friends , and Emotional Support where you may find even more support for yourself.
Macmillan are available to be contacted on the phone number in my signature if there is anything specific you need to help with, they have a wealth of information and could maybe point you in the right direction for support in your area.
There are others in this forum who have a similar experience to your husbands, I hope that they will be along soon to share their thougths with you.
Good Luck
