Hello there,

As title says, I am new to the group.
My dad has been diagnosed with Oesophageal cancer.. a 3cm adenocarcinoma..

he has been discounted as a candidate for surgery due to pre existing medical conditions.

we are awaiting referral to our local hospital as the hospital that has diagnosed him is over an hour away and not accessible by car.. so 5 days a week radiotherapy would not be conducive!

We are lead to believe that he will be have 5-6 weeks of radio with chemo but chemo not 100% due to existing medical conditions.

having lost my mum due to lung cancer in February 2020… I am at an absolute loss.

I was just wondering what to expect with the treatment with my dad, any questions I should be asking the oncologist when we meet them.. whenever that will be!!

thank you in advance

L.. x

  • Hi

I'm so sorry that you're on this journey especially after your mum. I'd suggest asking if they've analyzed the biopsy of the tumour in depth and if immunotherapy is an option. Of course pros and cons if the treatment being suggested.

    Wishing you all the best.

  • Hi Lolzee

Welcome to the forum, sorry to read that your Dad has a diagnosis for which Surgery is considered to not be an option,  although by you saying that this is because of pre-existing medical condition makes me think that this means that there is no spread to the turmours, which if correct is brilliant news.

I am sorry to read of the loss of your Mum in 2020, it is understandable that you feel as such a loss.

It is a little difficult to let you know what your Dad will expect until there is a better understanding of the treatment, what type of Chemo for instance..  That said, your Dad's only personal strength and ability to manage treatment will be much of the determining factors on this journey.

There are generally some side effects with cancer treatment, but they are not always horrific, just inconvenient or uncomfortable, as far as I have gathered from My Husband and the many posts that I have read, although there is a percentage where people do struggle.

I wish you Dad all the very best with his treatment going forwards, and we are here for you if you need us
