Oesophageal cancer

My husband has Oesophageal cancer, diagnosed in April, started his chemotherapy end of June.  The tumour has shrunk, his 'life changing' surgery is on Thursday.  I can't say I'm looking forward to the change in our lives.  Obviously, I realise not everyone gets this chance, but OMG!

  • I’m so pleased he can have the surgery, sending you both my love and I hope it all goes well :) my dad got given a load of booklets with information on lifestyle changes etc post surgery and they were super helpful x

  • I hope everything goes well tomorrow, yes life will be different but just knowing that the cancer will be removed is wonderful.  My husband had an oesophagectomy 13 years ago after an awful prognosis and we’ve been grateful every day since, a few hiccups along the way but we know how fortunate we are.

It will be a long day for you so take care and let us know how it went.

  • Hi MissBrightside, unfortunately the surgery is postponed for a month! Hubby's PCR test came back positive, the surgeon rang yesterday morning to tell us and find out how hubby was.  Apparently as he is not unwell at all and having had Covid-19 beginning of July and a booster mid-September they seem to think that the body has gone into making loads of antibodies.  So another wait another 10 days of isolation, but we know he will have the op and it gives him a few more weeks to get fitter.

  • Oh heck, that was news you didn’t need! You’re right about getting as fit as possible, my husband wore a path on the grass doing his ‘laps’ before his op, it was worth it though - I can still visualise him jogging on the spot next to his hospital bed hooked up to all sorts of things! x
