Hi
My husband (39) had just been diagnosed with a large oesophageal tumour and has also spots on liver. It has been a huge shock to us as a family. He has had a stent in today to try and allow him to eat a bit better to get his strength up for treatment. He had lost 4 stone in 9 weeks and was waiting on a scope but then took a turn for the worst and was admitted, and this was discovered. We thought he had a stomach ulcer...I just feel stunned to my core and totally helpless. Trying to stay strong for the kids (11 and 8) and hubby but I'm finding it hard to keep the brave face on all day long. I suppose I just wondered if anyone was in the same position as me or has been through it and could offer any advice.
I need someone to talk to, my mom is 61 and a fulltime carer to my severely disabled sister. Mom was diagnosed in Jan with esophageal cancer, they won't stage it but they say its non curable as they can't operate. She was told she would need 6 rounds of chemotherapy. She's had 3 and then a pet scan show6it was shrinking! She's not had chemo for 7 weeks tho cuz my disabled sister has been in hospital for 5 weeks and spent 3 weeks in intensive care on a ventilator. Moms had an ng nose feeling tube for months now but has to have it replaced alot as it gets blocked, today she had to have to redone but they've struggled to do it as the tumor has grown big again! I just can't believe it's come bk that size from only having 7 weeks break from chemo! Mom only has another 2 rounds left and now I'm panicking, what heppenes next? I'm really scared
Hi Kate83
I am sorry to read that your husband has been given such a shocking diagnosis; and that your post was not picked up beforehand,. You are very welcome here.
How is your husband coping with the stent, has he been given any information on the treatment.
Even thought the tumour has spread the treatment for this type of cancer has improved greatly,
It is not necessary for any of us to keep a brave face all day long, I know that you have the children and you don't want them to worry but in general kids are very resilient and I am sure yours are too.
Just wanted to reach out to you, and once again apologies that your post was missed.

Hi M.I
sorry that your post was not responded too when you where calling out for someone to talk with, I do hope that you have found others who can talk with you about everything that is going on with your Mum and maybe even some answers to what happens next.
Thinking of you

Hi Kate,
I'm so sorry for what you and your family are going through. It certainly isn't easy. My dad was diagnosed with oesophagael cancer in August 2020, his tumour was large and he also ended up having a stent fitted to help him eat. He had a number of rounds of chemo which really knocked him and he was very poorly but thankfully his tumour shrunk enough for him to have surgery to have it removed. They also removed some lymph nodes. Prior to this they also found spots on his liver but these turned out to be cysts. He was declared cancer free in April 2021!
He is now sadly facing cancer again but thats another story. I just wanted to point out that treatment for this cancer is improving all the time and positive stories are there and there seem to be more of them. He beat the odds the first time so it is possible! There are also other people on here who have previously shared their positive survivor stories of this cancer :) It is so so hard but I reminded myself to take everything one day at a time and try not to guess what the future might look like because it really only is a guess. I suppose the main point of my reply to you is to try and keep hope, every person responds individually to cancer so we can never really know what the future holds but we can always have hope and there are definitely positive responses to this cancer.
Sorry if that is no help at all! Sending you and your family love and hope x
