Oesophageal cancer

Hi everyone, my name is Laurence and I was diagnosed with cancer in the autumn of 2009, I went through chemo, and an operation  in early 2010.  I was treated in Exeter and Plymouth and I thank those people in both hospitals who looked after me.  It all started when I found it difficult to swallow, I saw a GP and was sent to Wanford Hospital for an endoscopy where they found the tumour.  My oesophagus was removed in 2010.  I am now 75 and doing well, although I have had heart problems a few years ago, I take a couple of pills to help it along.

If anyone wants to ask questions I am more than happy to tell you more of my life post opp

Best wishes

Laurence

  • Hello Laurence,

My partner is being treated in Exeter, he starts his second round 1st week in August. He is having chemo and immunotherapy. He is inoperable because he has one distant lymph node. His diagnosis was T3 N3 M0, So far since treatment started he can eat again and has put on some weight. He lost 2.5 stone very quickly.  Its nice to hear a succsess story and have someone to answer questions.

  • Hi Lady74, so sorry to hear about your partner, I'm sure he is being treated by some of the top people in the country.

I was a lucky one, they saw that my lymph nodes were glowing and put me at stage three, but on further investigation found my lymph nodes were not cancerous so I went from incurable to curable. I only had chemo, both before and after removing my oesophagus.

    Best wishes to you both

    Laurence
