My husband was diagnosed with oesaphagal cancer 5 months ago. All hopes of an op is gone after results from his petscan a few days ago.Hes now in hospital recovering from a stent procedure which hopefully will enable him to eat/drink more comfortably.

  • Feel the good will and best wishes of everybody here. The stent procedure was very tough for me in the day or so after insertion, but improved quickly. On that very limited experience but alos on the literature surrounding it he should already have got past the very worst. For me it made a very substantial if not quite perfect improvement. Your hopes should be justified.

I seem to go on about this, but he may need to learn to sleep with his upper body raised. On the back with three pillows and thumbs under the top of the legs works for me. There is now no sphincture to stop reflux, and the most effective protection is simple gravity.

You will see discussions about the drugs which can be used. They can be effective, but it is best to avoid the need in the first place - though he may still be advised to take them.

Best of luck to both of you.

  • Hi Dins

Welcome to the forum, I am sorry to read that after results from the petscan you have had confirmation that an op is not going to be possible.

Please know that you can reach out here at any time, you can also call the Macmillan helpline on the number in my signature and if I you have any questions that i may be able to help with, please ask.

My husband was diagnosed 2 years ago, non-operable, non-curable, but he is doing amazingly well, I hope that same will be so for your husband.
