Hi there,

I am a 53 year old female and was told on Wednesday 5th January that I have a small tumour lower down in my Esophagus after a endoscopy and CT scan. They don’t think it’s spread but I’m having a PET scan on Thursday to check the rest of my body for signs of spread. So anxious at moment as I’m trying to absorb it all. Consultant feels an operation is best option in the hope they can remove it all (if it’s not gone anywhere else that is)! I keep jumping ahead and googling everything to the frustration of family and friends who have advised me not to! I just need to know all the facts. The weird thing with mine is I have never had noticeable acid reflux or heartburn but must’ve had silent reflux at night as I’m due a sleep study for sleep apnea next week too,

I’m glad I’ve found this site as just texting my fears to others helps me. Thanking you all in advance

  • Hey, first of all stop googling stuff it will do you no good. The fact the Doctor is talking openly about an operation is a good sign and the fact they haven't seen anything in the CT is also a great sign. When they got my results from my CT scan they could tell it had spread and they were open with me that they were using the PET scan to confirm everything. I am afraid you need to be patient, but it sounds like you are in good hands.

  • Hi Browndog, I am sorry that you are going through this. My husband was diagnosed a couple of months ago and the first thing I did was google. I scared myself silly and wish that I hadn't done that now! Then I came on here (which was the best thing I could have done) and read personal experiences and realised that google and the stats don't tell the whole story. Waiting for all the tests is so hard. For my husband, once they were done and he was provided with a treatment plan he felt more in control and now just wants to get on with it. I hope all goes well for your PET scan and please don't google anymore. If you have any questions ask the people on here as they are amazing, kind and so positive. Di

  • Thank you so much for your words, I won’t google anymore, I’m all googled out,  I’m sorry to hear of your diagnosis and hope you get the treatment you need

  • Thank you for your reassuring words also Goldie 3, good luck to your husband too
