My husband was diagnosed with stage 4 adenocarcinoma on 24th Dec, he is only 41 and we have a 17year old son. I don't know how to cope today and this evening with everyone wishing everyone a gappy new year.
Morning Lealan, really sorry to hear your news where has the cancer spread to? I'm also stage 4 and I am only 35. Hearing the news is horrible and the oncologists can be brutal. However technology has advanced a lot in recent years there are many people in here who have defied odds that are or were stage 4 and have done really well. How is your husband and what are his symptoms?
Hi Lealan, I am so sorry to hear about your husband. My husband was just diagnosed on my daughter's 15th birthday and it felt like my world had fallen apart. We've celebrated my daughter's birthday and Christmas as if nothing is wrong, trying to keep everything normal for her. It's so hard as the news is all consuming. The worst thing I did was look at google. The best thing I did, and you have done, is come on here. This community have helped me so much. Like Vinny has said the delivery of the news is brutal, but then on here there are so many positive stories it gives you hope. x
Hi Lealan, I am also stage 4, I’m 43 and have two daughters 3 and 7. I’m sorry you’ve had this news, its truly awful. My cancer has spread from my OG junction to my stomach. Do you have a treatment plan yet? I was devastated but once there was a plan in place started to feel a bit better. I agree it’s especially hard at this time of year, but as vinny has said, the new treatments and technologies do offer us some hope. Anything I can help you with please let me know and as Goldie said, keep off Google it is not your friend.
Lealan please click on my profile and have a read. I really struggled when I was first diagnosed to eat and lost around about the same weight, but have slowly improved my eating which is great again now. I went from struggling to eat soup to eating pancakes this morning :). I have captured everything in there I learnt along the journey including recipes for your husband which I hope can help.
Its great news that he is positive that is exactly the attitude he needs to take this head on :) I recommend a charity called the cancer club which is a charity for men in the same position to help each other along the journey. It has really helped me come to terms with things and they have given great advice to help me along the way with symptoms. We chat via a whatsapp group its great. For yourself there are some wonderful women in this forum who have been supporting their partners and are here to help :)
Lealan
I just wanted to say hi, and ask how you are doing?
Has your husband started treatment or had any further advise yet?

Hi, thanks for asking
We had results from pet scan and as we thought it has spread to liver, stomach and lymph. Biopsies were sent off and he has tested positive for one of the biomarkers so can have immunotherapy as well as chemotherapy which is what we are waiting to Start hopefully in the next 7 to 10 days. He had a stent fitted 10 days ago and has found that difficult as he can eat less now with it and its still very sore but hopefully it will settle down soon. Sleeping propped up at 30° has taken him some getting used to too. So a bit like a whirlwind of emotions at the moment.
How are you doing?
Whatever cancer throws your way, we’re right there with you.
We’re here to provide physical, financial and emotional support.
