Hi Wave tone2

My mummy and my children’s grandma has been diagnosed with oesophageal cancer. Aged 65, having lived the healthiest life she could live, this has been hugely shocking. My children are 6, 4 (autistic) and 2 and I have no idea how to tell them. Mum came up every week for a sleepover and they are already asking questions, week 2. Any advice would be much appreciated.

thanks in advance xxx

  • Hi DaughterJ

I am very sorry that you have found yourself here, it is a difficult thing to write on a forum such as this, but you have and I hope that you will find the support that you will need during the months ahead.  You are very Welcome here.

This section HERE may give you some guidance on talking to your children, this is never going to be an easy thing, but it is important that you try to remember that there are different types of OC, different medications and treatments and different outcomes for all.  My husband was given a very poor prognosis, and thankfully that was incorrect, so as difficult as this is for you,  knowing your mummy is unwell with a cruel disease such as OC there is hope.

Please point your Mum this way too, we are here for all of you, and the Macmillan team are available by phone should Mum want someone too reach out to.

    Take care, sending strength
