My Hubby had a Esophagectomy in 2017 stage III TN2 did all his treatments and now in 2021 just had 2 cancer tumors removed from lymphnodes under the armpit. He's now waiting to start Chemo again but I am so worried already that he still vomits when he eats and with blood sometimes, I had gotten him to 130lbs but the last 3 months he has gone back down to 120lbs and dropping. Dr. doesn't explain or say much, just told him the Chemo specialist would take it from here. My question to the groupe is should I be worried like this? do I need to get my papers in order? or does he have a good chance of still being here with me for another 3 years or more?? I'm dealing with my breast cancer issues right now but this worrying about him and things not done are just eating away at me and no answers or explanations....Thank you for reading!
Hi, sorry to hear about your situation which is affecting you both. It will give you a little peace of mind if you get any legal things done now while you are both well enough to communicate. I was diagnosed with T3 N2 M0 oesophageal cancer in 2016 and had surgery only. I was diagnosed earlier this year with secondary cancer in the lymph nodes, 3 small tumours in my chest and 1 on my lower left side. I was told in April that it was terminal and offered Xelox chemotherapy which seems quite brutal to be honest. I'll stop rambling, recently one of the tumours between the oesophagus and windpipe has grown and I've lost about 30 pounds in weight over the last two months. So I couldn't have chemotherapy just now. I've just got my title deeds transferred to joint names and new wills written. None of us know when we're going to die, but I want to leave my wife without any legal things to worry about. I'm going to contact energy supplier, bank etc to get my wife named on all the accounts, that should make it easier to deal with any of the companies after I'm gone. I got a call from a Marie Curie nurse last Thursday, she is going to arrange to visit me at home to discuss palliative care needs. I'm trying to get as much as possible done whilst I can as I may not be able to speak soon. Take care. Kind regards Frank.
Hi Frank, I am so sorry to hear this.......keep strong and God bless!
Hi Worriedbutterfly
As Frank has already mentioned, it is always a good idea to have papers in order, we never know, we can only hope and live for today, make every second count.
Hopefully you will hear from the chemo specialist soon and they will be able to answer your questions, to some degree.
You are both going through a great deal right now, I hope that you know you can reach out to the Macmillan team for support if you feel that you need it.
Thinking of you both

Hi Frank
I too am sorry to read this as I have read many of your posts, and you are in my opinion a source of inspiration... Will be thinking of you and wish you all the best

Hi Lowe, thanks for your kind words. I've kind of gotten over the disappointing news and I'm feeling a bit better. I've had a call from a Macmillan nurse who is based in the Western general cancer centre in Edinburgh. I'm going to call her tomorrow just to clarify her conversation with me. I'm sure she said she would get the local Macmillan palliative care team to contact me for support ( I haven't heard anything from my local Go surgery). Last week I got a call from a Marie Curie nurse to discuss palliative care and support, she is going to arrange to visit me at home. I also need to clarify with the oncologist what is my expected life span and if I gain enough weight what the treatment plan is. I've been fortunate enough to have had a good 4 years since the surgery and I will continue to remain as positive as I can and fight for as long as I can. Kind regards Frank.
Hi Frank,
So sorry to hear your news. your inspirational comments on this site inspired me to share some of my experiences. As usual thanks for the practical advice and wishing you and your wife all the best.
Thanks for your kind words Anon. I've done well all things considered. And I am glad that I have helped people who have been through this. Brent was always an inspiration to me and I'm sure you have been inspiring people with your posts. Keep up the good work, I'm sure many people appreciate your help and advice. I'll keep you updated on my progress. Kind regards Frank.
