Hi,
I'm Ron, 60 years old male, recently diagnosed with Stage 4 OC (adenocarcinoma), 5cm tumour at the base of the oesophagus, has travelled to lymph node in neck. Inoperable.
Met with an oncologist to discuss treatment. Recommend 6 rounds of chemo + anti-body therapy. Was told only 20-30% of those finishing the treatment found it beneficial (e.g. tumour reduction).
Hard to get excited with these numbers.
Alternatives?
Advice?
Thanks
Ron
My partner has a 12cm tumour, he’s had 2 lots of chemo two weeks ago he couldn’t drink water , yesterday he ate a small Sunday lunch . I cut everything really small . This is a massive improvement, the chemo is obviously shrinking it , however he feels very sicky at the moment .
good luck
Ron,
I am really sorry, I totally missed this post, and I wanted to reach out to you and share my husbands story.
Firstly can I welcome you to this forum, there is a huge amount of advice available on here, and I hope that by replying to your post I am also bumping it up for others to respond..
I know that you have been advised that the OC is inoperable and I read the percentages that have been mentioned to you, and its no wonder that you would be coming here seeking alternatives or advice. But I am glad you have.
My Husband was diagnosed Stage 4 Oesophageal Cancer with secondaries in his lung, liver and lymph nodes, at the beginning of May 2020, T3N3M1 GOJ, treatable, not curable, inoperable... and quite a poor prognosis. The first thing I would want to ask the oncologist is "Why only 6 rounds?" If you click on my picture you will be able to follow a link to the blog I write for my husband, follow it from the bottom of the page for the start of the journey.. hopefully it will give you some encouragement and positivity..
How are you within yourself?
The Macmillan team are here to help, so if you would like to call the helpline you will find the number in my signature, and if you would like any advice on benefits you are entitled to or anything else, just shout, I will be happy to help.
Good luck with the treatment,
