We have just received esophageal cancer diagnosis for my husband who is 50. Not sure how to get my head around this. They had originally said treatment and operation but after PET scan it has spread to lymph nodes by neck so palliative care. Could really do with some positivity at the moment. Hugs and love to everyone on these journey
I feel for you, this happened to my partner who is only 48 . His spread too into the lymph nodes. Incurable also having palletive chemo . He was told last week he’s stage 4 now . Every time we go it’s even harder news to take in . I really know how you feel , it’s really worrying isn’t it .
hope things will start to look up for you both.
good luck
Hiya,
I am so sorry to hear about your husbands diagnosis, it is such a difficult time for you both. I came to this forum to hopefully post something positive and I hope it can help you.
A year ago yesterday I also came to this forum desperate for a positive outlook after being told that my dad (53)’s oesophageal cancer was inoperable and therefore terminal. It had grown around his pulmonary artery which is apparently extremely rare and we were told that he would have less than a year to live. As you can imagine we were absolutely devastated and I was desperate for some hope that we would have more than a year. The good news is that my dad didn’t give up and after palliative radiotherapy and more chemo the cancer has shrunk and is currently not growing. And it has been exactly one year and one day since we got the devastating news.
Although they may not be able to cure the cancer, the palliative care they can give is amazing and it really can prolong life expectancy.
I hope that my story may help shine a positive light on your situation and just know that everyone on this forum is here for you.
Love A x
Thank you , he’s eating lots more now I feel like it’s shrinking . It has to be Seeing him eat was very emotional

Hello MrsBear
Welcome to the forum, I can see that you have already had some great responses. What is the date for the chemo ?
Please let me know if you have any questions, it can be difficult being on the other side of the diagnosis, as we often feel so unable to help. But this is the best place for opening up communication and not feeling alone on this Journey...
How is your Husband in himself?

Hi Lowedal, thanks for the message.
My hubby is due to start Chemo this week slight delay as awaiting dpd test results. They are starting xelox chemo hopefully on Friday.
Hubby is doing well had a rough few weeks at the beginning of this journey but seems to have got on the positive train now. I think we are lucky as he can still eat relatively normally and not really any other symptoms.
They told us 12 months if no treatment, if treatment who knows.. so fingers crossed the treatment makes a difference. Bit apprehensive about side effects of chemo but we are going to take it one day at a time.
Hope things are going well for your husband and you are coping with this rollercoaster ride ok.
love to you both

Hi Lowe,
Where do I start, Encologist has recommended xelox/capox chemo which he finally started last Monday. Lost blood tests, lost consent form and then delayed meds delivery meant a weeks delivery. Chemo started well but massive change when the steroids stopped. He was so positive to be starting treatment and then it hit him with fatigue, light headed ness, nothing tastes good and he is not really hungry. On top of this he has got a stinking cold….. slightly worried as his swallowing seems to have got more difficult since starting chemo.
No sure if is is just over reacting as I seem to be watching and waiting for any bad side effects. He is a genuinely lovely man but this treatment has turned him into a grumpy so and so… me and the kids seem to have watch what we are saying all the time. If it’s not tears it is anger from him.
I have everything crossed the chemo works, they are going to do 4 rounds and then scan again.
They mentioned something about adding another medication in once additional tests have been done on biopsy. Herceptin something to do with if it is hers positive? but this can take a couple of weeks.
Anyway enough of me going on…
How are you and Hubby doing?
hugs to all xxxx
