Sorry for the brain dump, like the title says, I don’t know where to start….
My dad has had a Gastroscopy this weekend and they have found a 3cm growth, he’s now being sent for a full body scan then they can talk about treatment. The next 2 weeks are going to be the longest ever.
I’m hoping they have caught it early enough, not just for my dad, but for us all as a family. I can’t let this disease take another person I love away again!
Hello Crobin28
Thank you for posting in this forum, I see that you also posted in New to the community and received a full response from Highlander, I don't want to repeat his words, but I did want to welcome you and to acknowledge how frightening a time this is for you, your Dad and all of your family.
It is quite important that you try to find some positivity, and not to look at this situation as one that you personally have any control over. I imagine by your words that another important person in your life has lost their fight against this dreadful disease, and I know too how difficult that experience can be, but everyone is different, we react differently to news, to treatment, to our own inability to make things better for our loved ones.
Has Dad been given a date for the full body scan?, have any biopsies been taken?
There is a great deal of support within these forums, and we are here for both you and Dad, should he too wish to reach out. I am, like you, the person on the outside, it is my husband that has the OC diagnosis, so I have some understanding of the emotions that you and your family are going through at present.
Alongside you, I hope that they have caught your Dad's condition early enough, we are here for you should you need to reach out.

Hi,
Thank you for the reply. Yes I thought to comment in both areas as not sure where was best.
My dad is at the doctors this week to look at his blood tests results and is waiting a phone call to book the full body scan. Yes I’m sure they have took a biopsy. I’m hoping that it is contained and is operable, but until further tests we are unsure.
You are right I’ve lost 2 colleagues from cancer, one being Oesophageal, another being lung, a close family friend to Oesophageal again and both my maternal grandparents to lung cancer. I know everyone’s fight with this disease is different and I’m hoping my dad is one of the lucky ones.
Thank you for your words.
Hi sweetheart I’m guessing this is you as this is exactly dads story, please stay strong and know that we will get through this as a family, we need to try and stay strong for dad, in private we can be there and cry together! Love you xxxx
Hi Crobin
You have certainly experienced too much of this disease already, and having known someone who passed with this specific cancer can throw you off track, I say this because I too had a work colleague who lost to OC, but things have been very different for my husband.. My initial reaction was all based on my past experience and it was not a good reaction.
I hope you are right in your hope that your Dad will be one of the lucky ones, and I am sure if you huddle with your family, together you will find strength.
