Hi everyone, came across this group when looking for information. Husband has recently been diagnosed with oesophageal cancer.. To start combination of chemotherapy and radiotherapy.  He is unable to swallow so is having to be fed by nasogastric tube. He is feeling really tired and weak. Was wondering if this was normal with diagnosis cancer.

    1. Hello, I'm sorry you find yourself here. I'm new here too. Just updated profile so others can see the issues. There are many people on here who are very helpful. My husband is also being tube fed to get his weight up so he can cope with the chemo.

Hi there, It's totally normal for your husband to feel weak and tired. I had oesophagus cancer in 2018 and was on a nasogastric feeding tube for 3 months too. I seem to remember Macmillan do a booklet called "Cancer Related Fatigue" which helped me accept and cope with my exhaustion. Also I'm sure it's related to your husband not being able to eat properly for a while. I found my energy came back quite a bit while being fed through the tube, I put on weight too which was good as it helps with going through the rest of the treatment to have some extra weight to lose. Also, it was to be honest a relief not to have to try to eat while on chemo which can make us quite nauseous. I really hope you manage to get through, day by day, to recovery and new healthy life, it's tough going but you can do it. Very best wishes to you both.

  • Thank you for replying. Its reassuring to know that its normal.  I'll lookout for that booklet.
