Hi all,
I stumbled across this page while a bit lost looking for some information.
Last week my dad was diagnosed with gullet cancer. We don't yet know the stage and grade (hopefully soon) or exactly what his treatment will be.
He's in a bit of denial at the moment really and my mum is devastated. I don't live near them so this all feels very far away but awful and close as the same time.
I'm a bit worried about how his other health conditions will be with any treatment he might receive.
I'm hoping to find a community really that is knowledgeable with the technical side of things but also in supporting/coping with this.
Thank you so much :)

Hi J,
so sorry to hear of the news about your dad, I just wanted to reach out and say that this community is a great help and lots of people are always here to help or listen to you! As the diagnosis is still early, your dad is probably in shock, my dad was the exact same way.
keep us updated and ask as many questions as you need as I’m sure someone will be able to answer them for you!
take care
Thank you so much. He's got a meeting with a surgeon tomorrow and I think another scan. Hoping we'll know more soon and be able to see what treatment he'll have.
I so appreciate this community being here.
Hi J
Really sorry to hear of your dads diagnosis.
I am afraid I can’t help too much on the technical side of things as this is all very new to me too (my dad was diagnosed 6 weeks ago & yesterday finally got to sit down with someone & go through everything so we have more of an idea of next steps now).
But just wanted to reach out as I know how difficult it can be to come to terms with / cope with. The group here have been so supportive & I’m sure you will find the same.
At the moment we are just taking it one step at a time. My advice would be to avoid the internet - I was constantly on it at first but we were told by the nurse & my dads GP to ignore the info / stats you see online as a lot of it is out of date & treatment has come on a lot in the last few years. I find the info in this group far more valuable.
Wishing your dad all the best for his meeting & scan tomorrow and remember to take of yourself too.
Hello JordBri
Thank you for taking the courage and sharing the start of the Journey that you will be on with your Dad and rest of your family.
I am very sorry to read that Dad has an OC diagnosis, it is a huge shock for everyone, and like yourself I joined this site (just under a year ago) looking for information, positive outcomes and some form of "understanding" and I am pleased to say I received all of the above, in abundance and I am sure you will too.
One of the first things that I read was This it explains the two different types of tumour, the grading and the treatment process. It is important to remember that your Dad is unique, his diagnosis will be unique, and the treatment may be different to some of what you read on here, and the most difficult time is now... the time when you are waiting for the scans and results and the What Next advice.. throughout all of this we will be here if you need us.
There is also the Family and Friends forum which is a great support network of people who like you are on the "other side" of the diagnosis. My husband was diagnosed in May last year if I can help or advise in any way, please let me know
