Hi
I had an oesophagectomy 10 weeks ago and since then I've been sleeping on 3 pillows. Trouble is when I turn over in my sleep my head drops off the pillows and I wake up later with a nasty acid taste in my mouth. Has anyone any experience with using a bed wedge instead of a pile of pillows? And if so can you recommend one?
all the best
Ian

Thanks Charles Sue and Tony for your replies. I think I'm going to stick with three pillows which seems to be working okay at the moment. It's a question of getting enough elevation for me but which still allows us to snuggle up together.
all best wishes
Ian
Hi Ian,
my dad experienced reflux, it actually caused his cancer.
An easy way to try combatting this acid is by placing some solid items under your bed's feet. If you slip down you will still have that angle where your head is raised. I would go to between 20 & 30 degrees, try 20 1st though, less stress on the bed.
Have you asked about an anti acid med called Omeprazole, if you haven't then ask your GP or the chemo team. It's prescription only. So get it on repeat, then you'll have a constant supply.
I wish you the best during your chemo.
Regards,
Graeme.
