Hi my husband was diagonise in Feb after endoscopy , after scans was T3N0MO. Had 3 rounds of PRE FLOT due to have last round Tuesday but had to be delayed a week due to low albumin, edema in both legs and slight anemia the consultant wanted to give him a resr. Got water pills thats made a difference. Im worried that delaying it one week thr treatment will be less effective. Has anyone else had this during pre flot. Caroline
My husband had a few problems after his first dose of FLOT. He fainted a few days afterwards and cut his head quite badly, then 6 days later had bad diarrhoea and a suspected infection. He was admitted overnight for treatment.
As a result of both these things he was not in very good shape and the second dose was cancelled, resulting in a 4-week gap before his second cycle instead of 2 weeks. The oncologist did not seem concerned that this would adversely affect the treatment, and indeed when he had a scan after the fourth one the chemo had done its job, so I wouldn't worry about a one-week delay at this stage.
Thank you for your reply my husband is lucky it’s only been once, he has found it very hard on his body having throat , issues, diarrhoea, constipation, now edema . We just hope alls good for Tuesday. Regards Caroline x
Hope all goes well for him this time, then there will be time for him to recover and you can both return to some sort of 'normality' for a while before the next stage of treatment. xx
Hi Cazza75
I had my pre-op FLOT cycle 4 delayed by 10 days due to being hospitalised twice with an infection after cycle 3. Cycle 4 had 2 of the FLOT drugs reduced to help me cope better, which it did, I am now 4 weeks post surgery and will be heading in to a final 4 cycles of FLOT early July hopefully. The delay did not seem to affect the outcome in my case as the tumour had shrunk enough to allow the surgery to be carried out. Good luck.
Hi please dont worry I had Oesophageal cancer 2019 stage 3 had the same treatment Flot 4 sessions before Ivor Lewis op then 4 Flot treatments All I can say is I had a horrendous time with Flot and was delayed once and was really concerned BUT did not effect treatment at all. Here I am 7 yrs in September giving thumbs up to everyone that was involved in my journey. Tell your hubby to stay strong and he will get there xx
My husband was told the results of the scan at a meeting with the consultant nine days after his scan.
This was earlier then we expected though. He was due to see him 2 weeks later but it was brought forward so that the surgeon could assess another problem he had developed a week or so previously - an inguinal hernia which was making life difficult. Fortunately the surgeon fixed the hernia when he did the 'big op', for which we're very grateful as it's made his recovery easier than it would otherwise have been. He's two weeks post-op now and doing pretty well.
