Some good news.

I was diagnosed on 18th March 25 with cancer.

I've been through the mill to be honest.

Went into hospital at the start of May to have a feeding tube fitted. I coughed it up moments later, so they fitted a jej tube. Unfortunately, this leaked and caused sepsis. They decided to remove the jej tube and went with an ng tube through my nose.

I was finally released from hospital after 3 weeks and 2 days. Sent home with a course of antibiotics, I couldn't start my chemotherapy just yet, not until they were happy with the sepsis clean up.

After CT and PET CT, all confirmed T3n0m0 ardeno carcinoma. I've never had it officially staged.

After 8 weeks of 4 lots of FLOT and 6 weeks respite (ng tube removed, I could finally eat and drink.) I was submitted to hospital to get the esophajectomy.

I'm now sat here, 6 days later, feeling great. No attachments and I've been told I can go home tomorrow.

They're pleased with the results as I'm walking fair distances without aid. Im currently on free fluids, working towards pureed then soft foods.

Obviously my ordeal isn't over. I still don't know if I need more chemotherapy, which I probably do.

But I'm remaining positive.

I will keep you updated.

Remember, never give up hope.

Christophe.

  • That’s great news, Christophe. Out in 6 days is amazing! I was in for 16, half of them in ICU due to complications. Good luck for your recovery. I managed 3 lots of post-op FLOT at 70% strength (even though my histology had been very good) just to be sure.

  • Well done I was in for 7 days now 6 months post op and still doing well! Wishing you a good recovery! Tricia

  • Well done. Keep smiling. The pureed food is a bit of a pain but you will soon be through that phase as well. Hope all continues to go well.

  • Hi,

    Just a quick update.

I'm about to start the next 4 lots of FLOT chemotherapy treatment this Tuesday at Winchester hospital. Admittedly, I'm not looking forward to it. It should be finished by 31st December, ending the year 2025 with a good riddance.

I'm amazed at my progress. I'm eating normally, pretty much 3 meals a day of moderate sized portions. My first Sunday roast yesterday (Lamb shanks) since February. I snack between meals.

I feel so lucky. The NHS staff at Southampton and Winchester hospitals have been outstanding. I really don't know what we'd do without our beloved NHS.

My wife, family and friends have been so supportive. I love them all.

I'm writing this because I want others, who are going through this, to know that there is hope. I understand that other people are going through this a lot harder than myself or they're uncertain about their future and do not know how their life will change after such a traumatic ordeal.

Stay strong, stay positive. You'll get through this.

    Love to all.

    Christophe.

  • Hi Cristophe. Sounds like your recovery is going well. Good luck with the next stage. Like you I am under the superb care at SGH. No one wants this illness but on the way I have had the opportunity to meet some fantastic NHS staff and will be always grateful to them.

  • Had I have had this problem 7 years ago I would have been under SGH but was treated at Bristol BRI and yes we are so lucky to have this fantastic NHS and will also be forever grateful to them !
