Hi All
i hope you are all as well as can be.
i finished treatment on 13th May & currently feeding through a rig. When would you try eating again & what do you suggest trying? I don’t think I could stomach the thought of soup! Any advice gratefully received x
many thanks - Sue x
Hi Sue,
When you say “treatment” do you mean surgery or chemo? When I started eating again after my op, it was blended soups (sorry), full fat yoghurts, soft cheesy scrambled eggs, runny cottage pie (made with finely minced beef), M&S custard etc. Anything with plenty of calories. Good luck, CB
Hi CB
Thank you for replying & I should have been clearer about my treatment.
I had four rounds of chemo & 25 sessions of radiotherapy. I was able to eat all those things you mentioned until radiotherapy made it impossible to try anything without bringing up what I can only describe as white foam. Almost scared to try anything now, but I need to put some weight back on, so will slowly make a start. Thanks again!

Hi Sue,
Like you I had 25 rounds of radiotherapy and I had 5 rounds of chemo.
I was put in touch with the hospital dietician and they were great and gave me loads of advice on what to eat and prescribed fortisip drinks to boost my calories. You should ask for a referral.
I found that once radiotherapy ended I still deterriated for a couple of weeks due to swelling and pain. I was still able to swallow a soft diet so they gave me a painkiller to drink before meals, which coated the oesophagus numbing it so I could eat.
My treatment ended about 7 weeks ago, the pain has gone and I am now back to eating normally. I am due a scan next month, they wait to be sure swelling has gone. I will then see the oncologist to see if the treatment has been successful.
I hope once things start to settle you also see a lot of improvement

Morning Sharon
Thank you so much for sharing your experience. I am feeding the fortisips through my tube but I’m desperate to eat some normal food. My two weeks is up tomorrow & the pain has definitely got better but I’m almost scared to try food as been nil by mouth for so long! Glad to hear you are able to eat normally now & please let me know how your scan goes - I have everything crossed for you!
