I am  almost 12 months post op but I still have really bad days and today is one of them

I am experiencing a tightening grip around the scar issue which is going under my bust. I still experience nausea. Is anyone else experiencing these symtoms

  • Hi Labrador11. I did suffer with pain under my bust for a long time, and couldn’t stand to wear anything that pressed on the area. I didn’t suffer from nausea though. However, I do now manage all clothes, but find sitting down in the evenings feels uncomfortable so I put on my lovely PJ’s. I am virtually 15 months from the operation. I think if I was you, I’d phone the Upper GI Nurse at the hospital, just to check. They might be able to suggest something. It’s worth a phone call. Hope things improve. Julie

  • Hi Labrador11

I am afraid that tightness can hang around for a long time. Forgive me if I am telling you something you already know but as I had it explained to me, it's the rib spreader used in your back area when your lung was deflated that apparently causes this nerve damage around the front of the rib cage. Everybody who goes through this op. seems to be left with this but eventually the discomfort should/will fade. The nausea I am not familiar with but it sounds like something you should perhaps seek medical advice for from your MDT as they should be able to help you with that. I hope things improve for you.

  • Thank you the consultant did tell me it was nerve damage and it can take up to two years to heal. Was just feeling sorry for myself

  • i am only just under 3 weeks since op on 8th jan, and god the soreness under my remaining boob where the scar runs christ, never heard the rib spreader!, cant seem to get comfortable, sitting or sleeping,  back to the surgeon tomorrow, its a face to face so hopefully he will check his handy work, christ this recovery is another level, but we take what we can thats offered, praying chemo not needed but if it is, another extra path added to this journey

  • Hi Labrador 1.

I was feeling very bad for a few months after the surgery. Acid attack, coughing that sticky gunk. Let's not mention the constant exhaustion.

Recently, a year or so after the surgery, I can feel discomfort in an area in my throat, where the suture is. I suppose this is tightening? It's a bit painful

Chest: I had that for a long time after the surgery. You ribs need to heal. It hurt when coughing, breathing, and sometimes for no reason.

    It is much better now.

    Cheers

  • It is a long recovery.  Don't think I will ever be like I was before the op
