Hi
Currently truing to come to terms with my consultant visit yesterday. My own fault in a way as I was making sure I was prepared, read all the side effects for radiotherapy and the blogs of relevant champions on here. All well and good then I was still thinking that as my cancer was on found limited to ‘just’ the surface of tonsil and although SSC was suspected between the tonsil and soft palate but only abnormal cells found in lymph node and soft palate area (and he’d taken a big sample from there). Which I though was ‘good’.
anyway who was I ? Feeling grateful and thinking I’ve got a little bit of cancer and will only have a little bit if radiotherapy. The consultant chat put me straight. People on here had warned the chat is scary with all the side effects but I felt prepared. I don’t know how anyone is really prepared for them to start booking a day surgery to put your feeding tube in. Hearing all this when you feel well is Both lymph nodes will be treated so I will reread the blogs and find out about how many weeks after treatment starts that I’ll stop eating… when will I need to stop working (self employed).
I told my mum and dad yesterday. Mum cried and asked will you lose your hair? I was able to say no. Small comforts x I seemed to spend a lot of time reassuring other people yesterday x
Hello Lorr O. Have been diagnosed with oesophageal cancer? I'm sorry the consultant appointment was so difficult, yesterday. When my husband was first diagnosed, he sort of took it in his stride as there is nothing he could do about it. We found that telling close family and their reaction was harder, particularly when his Mum and mine cried. Rod too spent a lot of time reassuring everyone that he'd be fine and would be putting everything into fighting the cancer. When he told his Mum he wouldn't lose his hair, she told him he already looked bald! (He doesn't, just grey/white) Mothers!
So sorry to hear this it’s funny how you spend your time reassuring people once you mention the cancer word as people don’t know what to say !
I have no experience of your cancer so am unable to offer you any advice! I do however have a feeding tube for my oesophageal cancer and found it a life saver although I have now had two cycles of chemo and am able to eat which is fantastic I expect I will need to use it again after my esophagectomy but it’s fine they are so easy so please don’t worry!
hope your parents are ok they can always use the macmillan help line it’s for family as well!
Would I lose my hair was the first thing I asked my consultant he said no I said good because it cost me a lot of money haha he was wrong !!!
take care sending Hugs and strength
Tricia
