CHEMO ONLY

Hi all,

My husband had his oncology appointment today and will be having 6 cycles of Capox every three weeks with a tablet every day. He is not suitable for immunotherapy so I need to reach out for positive stories with just chemotherapy.

We will never give up.

  • Hi

Although I'm not a member of this forum I noticed that your post hadn't had any replies yet. Responding to you will 'bump' it back to the top of the discussion list and hopefully someone from the forum will be along shortly.

I've had chemotherapy, although for a different type of cancer, but found it a lot less 'nasty' than I was expecting. I hoping your husband will find the same.

While you're waiting for replies, it would be great if you could put something about your husband's diagnosis and treatment to date into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.

  • Hi. I feel for you. My mother had the same treatment - and responded very well to it...with some apparent shrinking of the tumour. We found that on the first few days of the treatment, when she had other tablets to take too (steroids and anti-nausea) she was pretty much normal and could do things. Then, there was a slump in the middle of the first week, but then she slowly got back to normal before it started again. It really did do what the oncologist said it would - ie maintain quality of life, suppress symptoms (excess saliva in her case largely). She was able to have all 6 cycles, and it worked as well as could be hoped. Of course, everyone is different (my mother is now 90 - the treatment definitely helped her to celebrate her 90th birthday almost as normal - and was otherwise fit and healthy) but I do hope this gives you a feeling for how it might go/what to expect. Good luck!
