I've recently posted that my dad has been diagnosed with Stage 4 Esophagus cancer which is also present in his liver. We are waiting on what treatment can be used. Haven't been given a time but they are unable to operate.
On Wednesday he was taken to hospital as he hadn't eaten for a few days was breathless and just couldn't stay awake...they have said he has a nasty chest infection and they are doing several tests but they have said being poorly at the moment isn't to do with the cancer.
We haven't really been told much since Wednesday other than every doctor saying it's a cheat infection where he's having antibiotics. He has swollen feet and a rash on the lowe part of his legs. He has got his appetite back and is eating alot more than what he was and drinking lots and isn't having any trouble swallowing...or.going to the toilet etc.
He has an appointment at Christie's on Wednesday for blood test and consultation but now I'm thinking that he can't start any treatment until they get him better but not sure when that will be :(
He hasn't seen a doctor since Friday morning he's had a chest X-ray ultrasound over the weekend so I'm guessing that the doctor will speak to him tomorrow.
I'm just feeling so anxious and worried and wondered if anyone else's loved ones have experienced anything like this prior to treatment.
Hi Doll88
Sorry to read about your dad, indeed there is a whole raft of things that can affect people on the route to treatment and indeed during treatment too. My wife cancer is very different, Leiomyosarcoma, but she had the classic infections during treatment with admission to hospital for temperature spikes and treatment with IV antibiotics. Weekends in hospital do tend to be rather quiet so unless someone is at risk it is not uncommon in our experience to barely see a doctor at all, I hope you have had some reassurance now.
Remember if you need it you can always ring the helpline, it is open 7 days a week from 8am to 8pm and supports everyone affected by cancer - I have cried at them in the past
<<hugs>>
Steve
Hello.
Thank you for your kind words.
The appointment today wasn't good news due to the liver being so damaged unless that repairs itself then he's not well enough for chemo
I don't even know how to handle everything. And certainly not ready for what's to come.
Wishing you and your wife well.
