This particular cancer is on the increase because it’s not easily diagnosed, GP’s tend to treat the symptoms with medication at first then they may proceed to an endoscopy. Sadly by this stage it’s a bit to late for some. In the past this cancer was mainly found in men over seventy but now it’s found in women more frequently, I was sixty when I was diagnosed. I would encourage anyone who has any of the following symptoms to go straight to your GP :- weight loss, difficulty in swallowing, excessive burping, acid reflux, abdominal discomfort. I would advise don’t be fobbed off by your doctor, insist on an endoscopy sooner rather than later. Luckily I had mine privately if I had waited I think my outcome would not have been a positive one.
Hi Martha G,
I was lucky to be on my husbands private health insurance so it was done at my local Nuffield hospital, I think it was £1,400 but that was 2yrs ago and as we all know things have gone up in price since then. I also think cost varies depending on where you live. Anything else I can help with just let me know.
Well said Kitty I was diagnosed in 2019 with oesophageal cancer stage 3 the only symptoms was a bit of acid reflux. I would advise anyone to see help immediately.
This cancer is unlike some others, it doesn’t show with a lump or any bleeding. So other symptoms need to be taken notice of. I hope you are doing well.
