Hi. My husband had a stent fitted a week ago and he has suffered with terrible reflux ever since. He is on Lansoprazole twice a day but it doesn’t seem to help. On the plus side he can eat most things really well now. He says his stomach is constantly feeling as though it’s bubbling and he is belching a lot. Any ideas of extra medication would be greatly appreciated.
Hi there. I had a stent fitted about a month ago and had problems with acid reflux . I was coughing all of the time . I normally take omeprazole and the doctor recommended that I upped the dose to 40 mg twice a day and that I took Gaviscon advanced after every meal. It took about a week to settle down but I am much better now. They also recommended an anti sickness drug as it speeds up your digestion but it didn’t really help me so I stopped taking that. I still burp a lot and it is very painful. On the plus side as you say eating and drinking is much easier. The diet is a bit monotonous but am getting used to it. It’s definitely worth talking to the medical staff in charge of your case as I found they were really helpful. I get Gaviscon on prescription now as the advanced version is not easy to get hold of and very expensive. Hope some of this helps!
Hi PEB,
i don’t have a stent but I too have that pretty constant bubbling. It doesn’t seem to affect my ability to eat but it is annoying. I was on omeprazole but it stopped working. So they switched me to famatodine 2x daily it’s better than with the omeprazole. I had 4 cycles of chemo and immunotherapy which seems to have worked well so they decided on two more cycles and another scan. Hope they can find something to ease the bubbling feeling ,but glad he can eat again.
Is the lansoprazole in capsule or tablet form? The latter dissolve on the tongue and have immediate effect.
The important thing seems often to be simply applying gravity - not lying down flat but always having the chest raised.
I have a stent fitted, and know that I am fine if I follow this advice, but if I wake up having slipped down the bed, or otherwise bend over I am liable to a very uncomfortable reflux. At such times, I take the tablet form of Lansaprazole, and it has the most immediate effect.
