Hi all, sorry I haven’t posted for a while. Just wanted to give an update since I last asked a question about the operation and to offer my own experience of the operation.
it’s early days but I had my operation on 7th June - minimal invasive surgery. All went to plan and I was on high dependency unit for 4 days and transferred to a ward on day 5 where I spent a further 4 days to recover and home last night (15th). It’s been an experience I will say and had a bit of pain for a couple of days after coming off the epidural on day 5 but managed well by morphine related medication when needed.
Nursing team were all BRILLIANT and I was well looked after and I made some lovely friends in the ward over past 4 days (who were in for different reasons to me). We even had a giggle at times! Now for the recovery at home and the new way of eating to get used to!!
if anybody would like to ask any questions at all then please feel free to ask and I’ll do my best to reply from my own experience so far. Just so relieved to have come out after just 8 days (although I wouldn’t have minded staying in for a further couple of days)! Have loads of support around me at home though.
Take care everyone and I’ll post again soon about my own experience with the eating from now on!

Hi Browndog
I am pleased to read about your experience so far. If my chemoradiation goes well I could have this operation in September. Thank you for sharing your experience. It will help me and others massively as the operation is huge.
Thank you and all the best and wishing you a good recovery!
Thank you orange, I’m feeling stronger everyday, the eating is going to take some getting used to as I’m just not hungry and sometimes when I eat just a tiny amount I feel bloated. Just got to get used to it and recognise what I can eat and what I can’t. Am keeping a food diary. Good luck with your journey forward
