Hi all, I haven’t posted for a while as nothing new to report and I’m sorry I don’t reply to many of you, it’s still new to me so I haven’t got much to input yet. I did however have my first round of FLOT treatment yesterday preceded by my picc line being put in which was completely painless and I was very relaxed throughout.  I was at hospital for almost 9 hours in total but everything went ok and I had a good night’s sleep last night even though I had my last drug attached to me in a small bottle.

Feeling ok today, a bit tired and I have to remember not to touch cold things or rinse hands in cold water as I get instance pins and needles and tingling which lasts a while but is eased considerably putting my hands on something warm like round a cuppa!

Thanks for listening and I hope I can answer any questions in future for any new people diagnosed with this type of cancer. Take care all

Thankyou for posting glad to hear you are responding well. I know we are all different but it gives an idea of what to expect on the first day. I start FLOT tomorrow. Thanks again for posting

  • Morning guys, with Flot my advice is to take it easy for the first few days after treatment, I've had 9 cycles now and I tend to feel really tired for a few days after, but feel better and better towards the end of the cycle. Keep yourself warm and hydrated and let the drugs do their job. When I have the pump on I often feel lightheaded don't worry this will go and you will start to feel better as soon as it is off. I tend to spend the first few days of the cycle sat or led down. 2 other side effects from flot I experienced was dry skin get some moisturizer from the docters which is free dermol 500 is great and the bath wash and start using it now, trust me plaster yourself in it. I also recommend getting a sensitive toothbrush and some flavourless toothpaste as your mouth will become sensitive.

  • Hi Browndog. My husband is on Capox and also suffered from feeling the cold and the pins and needles etc. I bought him special silver thread gloves and a HotRox handwarmer from the Raynaud's Disease website and they have been a game-changer. Really helped deal with this unpleasant side-effect. All the best with your treatment.

  • Hi Browndog, after the first FLOT I felt reasonably ok, just a bit difficult sleeping with the bottle. I found as the chemo increased in my body the effects were so much more noticeable, I had oral thrush, very dry cracked lips, smelly concentrated urine, lack of saliva which makes eating difficult. Tiredness and my hair falling out in clumps. By the fourth round my body felt so weak I just wanted it to be over, despite all of this I made myself get up and get dressed every day because it gave me some normality, but I made sure to have a lie down for a couple of hours in the afternoon. I think we have to remember it’s attacking the “thing” that wants to take our life. My gp was very helpful in prescribing anything I needed to help with the above problems and my husband was very helpful when he shaved my head. Good luck and stay positive

  • Chemotherapy attacks fast replicating cells so your skin and mouth takes a bit of a battering. I had exactly the same thought process as you if it's drying out my skin then it's beating the hell out of my tumours too :)

As I mentioned above get yourself the moisturizer (dermol 500) from the docters and don't be shy with it I slap it all over my face every day and it works a treat.

Mouth care you need to really keep on top of the flavourless toothpaste is great and there is a mouthwash drs recommend called diflam which they told me to use every day.

Do the above two things and listen to your body and rest when you need to really helped me with chemotherapy symptoms.

Regarding the pump I used to put a chair by my bed and hung the pump on there whilst I slept. Try to get out for some fresh air when your cold sensitivity goes and weather permits it will work wonders for you mentally.
