Hi. I am around 10 weeks out for the surgery and am currently having 25 sessions of radiotherapy. I’m up to 10 treatments now and am starting to feel it, difficulty and pain in swallowing and the sick feeling is quite bad. I’m dreading the next few weeks. I was just wondering what is best to drink? Can I drink coffee or fresh orange juice? My weight seems to have stabilised but I do seem to suffer dumping and stomach pain a lot of the time. Have you guys any tips or food ideas you could share with me? Thanks
Hi Norm, I didn't quite understand what you said. Are you 10 weeks post surgery, or are you 10 weeks away from having surgery? I see you mentioned food dumping so I'm guessing that you are post surgery. If that's the case I would avoid sugary drinks and food and I had to avoid simple carbohydrates like potatoes. I used to get early dumping if I ate even a spoonful too much of food. It would make me windy and feel faint for about an hour. Then just when I was feeling better I would get the sugar crash, sweating, feeling weak and confused. Quickly fixed by a couple of small mars bars or something similar. I'm still on 1x 30mg lansoprazole to inhibit stomach acid, I found coffee made with warm milk goes down well without the acidity problem. Definitely write down what you have eaten or drank that causes the acid and you can avoid them. Please feel free to ask anything else, and I will help if I can. Kind regards Frank.
Hi Frank. Thanks for your reply. Sorry if I wasn’t clear I’m past surgery now and having radiotherapy because the flot chemo had no effect on the tumour. So they are trying this way to mop up anything that might have spilt during surgery.
Hi Norm, I kind of guessed that you were post surgery or beyond having surgery. I decided not to have chemotherapy or radiotherapy before or after surgery so have no experience with eating problems related to the treatment. I can only share my experiences of recovery, and eating problems after the surgery. It's when you mentioned food dumping that made me think you have had surgery. So if there's anything in my previous reply that you can relate to and would like more information post a question or two. And if I can help you in any way I certainly will. Keep positive and keep fighting. Kind regards Frank.
