Hi have posted recently that hubby was told on 23/10 that had OC tomorrow afternoon he is having a pet scan already had ct scan, specialist nurse has told him the results will probably be all in about 14 days we are both worried sick all we have been told is that it’s in his lymph nodes too but liver clear, he is struggling really bad with keeping/ getting any thing down starting on fortisips today, my main worry is he’s saying he’s in pain and so tired but he’s still going to work, I feel personally that he needs to be concentrating on himself and actually going on leave from work, how do I suggest this to him without pressuring him, not sure if he’s going as worried about no income or something else. Sorry for long post no one else to talk to
It's a difficult subject to broach, but you know for a fact that he has cancer so his work are going to understand and regardless of further results he needs to get his head around the situation anyway. With the protien drinks try fresubin they are great. With eating my best advice is to take your time and water down the food and avoid acidic foods. My Mrs makes me soups and blitzs them in a blender so i can drink them. A juicer is also great blitz up apples, carrots, pears all full of calories and easy on the stomach.
Hi xx you are so right in that your hubby needs to concentrate on himself at the moment and not think about work. They are just going to have to work with him on this, he didn’t ask for this diagnos. I have to say my husband’s work have been brilliant and told him in the nicest possible way that they didn’t want him at work, to stay home and get sorted so this is what he’s doing. Obviously I d
’t know your circumstances but there is an awful lot of help out there (financial and emotional) so please, contact Macmillan and find out what you are entitled to, you will be surprised. My hubby i
a very proud man who has worked all his adult life and it has taken me and our wonderful Macmillan contact a while to convince him that he is entitled to this help and to apply for it (me being the
mily secretary I got the forms lol). Our Macmillan contact did one of them and the money came through just over a week later. Hope this helps
Hi Chillipepper36
I understand how difficult it is being on the other side of the diagnosis, and that you want to protect your hubby as much as possible, and I know too how frightening the waiting is, the slow ticking of the clock, the days not moving fast enough, the results pending, and of course the mind working overtime as the fear mounts.
All that said, I also know that a positive attitude is half the battle, and maybe your hubby Needs to go to work at this time, he may need to hang on to the normality that he knows, and allow the busy times as work to filter in to him being, whilst he waits.
My husband had spend many weeks struggling before going to the hospital, he came home from work on the Monday evening in so much pain and totally unable to eat anything, and it was from there that he stopped working until he became well enough to work again from home.
It is true, that when the time is right your husbands work will have to do without him, but if by going to work it is actually helping him to cope, then it might be a good thing.. maybe the way to ask him is to discuss whether he feels more in control if he continues going to work.
Sending strength to you all, and sorry for the short response, happy to chat later if that would help.

Hi, Hope the Pet scan went OK, I've got mine next Wednesday so am at the starting pistol like your Partner, I had a Laryngectomy last August and was/am doing great when my last scan showed the problem which hit me and my whole medical Team badly, I had a meeting yesterday with my new clinical nurse and she explained what they found in my normal 3 monthly scan and explained everything, my fear is RT, I refused the follow-up after the operation last time but if I had of had it then my Consultant said the options to treat this one would have been limited, so I'm hoping for Chemo/RT as a treatment as the discription of the operation don't look too nice.
I picked up your entry as feel your Hubby and I am on the same pathway and timing. I also work (at 71) with a very understanding employer the Citizens Advice, we are working on a plan but I have also discussed it with the Team and they agree I continue as best I can, either in the office or from home I feel it will help keep me sane !. On the lucky side of me is the Laryngectomy, as my airway is well protected from viruses with my filters on the Stoma so the reduction in immunity from Chemo will not be such a large problem.
Keep in touch with his progress and I will keep adding to this as I go along and what they are deciding- still scared stiff of RT and the damage
Best wishes
Tony
