My dad has recently diagnosed with cancer of the oesophagus which is crossing over the gastro oesophageal junction, stage 3 and gone into some nearby lymph nodes but not to his liver, he is 86 and still quiet fit, they have told him that if he has surgery he willbptobsbly die on the operating table, they are not giving him chemo either as it will make him poorly, as a family it's hard to take and very upsetting, we were thinking about a second opinion or even go private as we have nothing to lose, I just feel as a son surely u would try chemo and give it a go to shrink it or even a operation, I'm just saying this as it's not gone to his liver so there must be a fighting chance  can anyone help, with any advise anything please, as we are not sure what to do, thankyou

  • Hi

I am a post oesophageal cancer patient and after many stretches can now swallow soft food. I was on a feeding tube for 2 years. There is an advert on TV and haven't seen it for a while. Trying to remember name of company advertised by late Ronnie Corbett. Is it. Ahh it is Wiltshire Farm foods!

They do ready prepared meals and puddings puréed or soft and make them look like normal food. No minimum order price and delivery is free. They will even bring it in and unpack it for you. I found the pureed meals too large were fantastic and made me feel I was eating real food. but the desserts

  • Hi,

My 62 year old father has been diagnosed with oesophageal cancer this week. The doctor has said they cannot treatment but have fitted him with a stent to give him a better quality of life. We are waiting to get the biopsies back. Dad has lost alot of weight the last few weeks. The week prior to having the diagnosis he had lost a stone. He is so frail due to struggling to eat, keep food down etc. Since the stent was fitted he is able to eat again, or at least swallow the soft food diet.

i am so confused, if he bounces back health wise will they be able to treat or is he just going to continue as he is? Will the biopsies determine how long he will have?

a CT scan was carried it after the tumour was found and there is no evidence the cancer has spread.

    thanks

  • This is an excellent company and the food is good. Very friendly drivers

  • Hello Louise. It looks like you've joined an old thread on the forum. You should start a new one and you will get many more responses, I think. I'm sorry about your Dad's diagnosis. My husband is 64 and has incurable oesophageal cancer. His has spread so he can have surgery and is on palliative treatment. Have you been to your Dad's appointments with him? You can ask his oncologist and specialist nurse all your questions and they should explain why your Dad can't have treatment, especially if the cancer hasn't spread.

I hope you get some answers.
