Hi my mum 69 has just been diagnosed with oesophageal cancer 4cm big in upper part of oesophagus. Cat scan was fine awaiting PET scan results . Following MDT meeting they don’t want to operate due to ongoing issues with lung capacity/ scar tissue . Sounds strange we were looking forward to surgery , nurse informed dad they still want to treat with aim of cure without surgery can they do that . We are confused and scared, I don’t want to lose my mum yet , any support would be appreciated
Hi Stephen,
So sorry to read that Mum has a recent OC diagnosis, it does sound like MDT are under the belief that with the current information they hold, they have caught Mum's tumour in time to treat non-invasively.
These guys know what they are doing, they are dealing with this condition on a regular basis and I feel that it is a real positive that they believe they can eradicate without surgery...let's hope her treatment starts ASAP, to ensure a quick and speedy result.
Good Luck and positivity sent to you both.
