Hi, I’m 25 years old, active and generally healthy, I have type 1 diabetes. I had an endoscopy 10th November and they took some biopsies. No results yet, was told I’d be informed by the GP but I now have an appointment with the gastroenterologist on the 11th December. I’m very nervous at what he’s going to tell me. My symptoms to date include trouble swallowing foods (especially stodgy and dry foods) sometimes getting stuck and having to bring the food back up, feeling full very quickly and taking a long time to eat meals, heartburn/reflux and pain when eating (not all meals but getting more frequent). There was nothing remarkable on my endoscopy other than trachealisation (ringed oesophagus) - just looking for some reassurance and what to expect at this appointment.
Hi Phoebe98
I’m not surprised that you’re worried. That sounds like an awfully long time to keep you waiting for biopsy results. Have you tried phoning and asking about them? My one piece of advice at this stage would be to make sure you bring someone along with you to your next appointment. Easier said than done, but try not to worry about what might be. Best wishes to you
Hi, thank you for your response! I tried ringing the GP yesterday but they’ve not had anything with my results come through to them. I thought it was a long time too, and this appointment with the specialist took me completely by surprise.
My boyfriend is going to be coming with me so I’ll have someone there.
Hi Phoebe98
The time it took is not a too long wait at the moment due to the pressures on the service and the frequent strikes etc, mine was about that time even prior to the present problems, depending on those results unfortunately you will be having many more tests and meetings, at present our local area the scan results are taking the longest time, I am on 4 monthly scan check ups and sometimes the results are taking about 6 weeks. Hang on in there and make sure you start writing down all your questions as when you start this journey (if you have to ) then please do write down all your questions and problems before any meetings with the Team. You should also understand that as you have been referred to the Cancer Team your GP will not be your point of contact, depending on the next steps your Oncology/Consultants and Nurses will be your support network, and, of course all of us on the Forum
Hope all goes well for you at the results meeting and make sure you all take care and know we are also here if you need support
