How to get nutrition

Don’t know if this any help, I also have oesophageal cancer although not stage 4, I have had flot chemo. Prior to that I was at the stage I could only swallow liquids. I have had a stent fitted and able to eat a reasonable diet now, but prior to that I found the best thing was complan which I got on prescription. 

I would advise speaking to her contact nurse at Upper GI. The hospital will have several routes for providing nutrition to her if it is deemed essential. It is a common problem for those of us who have had this horrible illness. 

1. I had a feeding tube fitted which was a god send

I'm sorry to read that your Mother is going through this. I also struggled to eat, switching to liquids only. However, I was concerned that eventually it would be difficult to swallow liquids so I spoke to the nutritionists who recommended a feeding tube. I had an NG tube, as a jej tube failed and caused sepsis (long story).

After 3 months and a bout of chemotherapy I was able to get the NG tube removed so now I can eat soft foods.

So speak to the hospital and try to get a tube fitted.
