Hi. My husband has just had his Ivor Lewis surgery five days ago. Operation went well. But he wasnt well after and had to be put on a ventilator. It was removed the following day. But 36 hrs later he was really struggling to breathe and they took the decision to sedate him and put him back on the ventilator where he remains three days on. He has pneumonia in his left lung and have been told he is very poor. He is normally such a fit man. Plays golf weekly. Walks a couple of miles daily. This has come out of nowhere. Desperately worried. He worried about the operation but we never really thought about afterwards. Feel like every five mins my phone doesn’t ring is a bonus and the antibiotics get five minutes more to do their job.
Hi Skin…you sound so positive…I am trying to keep really positive for my hubby but finding it hard at the moment…it,s certainly like a roller coaster..the consultanypt warned me about how he weould possibly be, mentally, after coming off sedation…I am wondering if he is panicking at times..he,s is an anxious sort of person and hospitals are his nighmare! And maybe that is affecting his obs…he seems a little better today…tiny baby steps…It,s so good to know of people who have been through similar experiences…
