Hi there, I'm wondering if anyone has had any luck managing anaemia? Hubbie's red blood cell count was 89 a few weeks ago (post blood transfusion) but I don't think is improving as he is still suffering from severe fatigue. He is taking a fair amount of iron through the Fortisip drinks, but it is possible we could boost it further.
I'm also a bit worried he may also be suffering with lymphoma. I don't have any evidence for this, other than some symptoms (as well as fatigue, cough, shortness of breath, etc) and the fact that he had Hodgkin's in his 20s (nearly 40 years ago).
I'd be grateful for any thoughts people might have on either of these issues.
Many thanks, Creina
Hi Creina
Firstly can I apologise for not responding to this, or your previous posts sooner and also for not welcoming you to the OC forum,
I really am sorry to read that your Hubbie seems to have anaemia and that he is struggling severe fatigue. I notice that you say he is already taking iron through the Fortisip drinks and in a previous post you mentioned that he can still stomach milkshakes, and I was wondering whether you have tried smoothies. There are several foods that help to boost not only the immune system but also the red and white blood cells. Anti-oxidant foods are also great at helping the body fight back... These types of foods I add to smoothies regularly for my husband to ensure he continues to fight off the bad whilst undergoing chemo.
I notice in your other post that you mention that your Hubbie has completed treatment for OC... have you been advised whether there will be any further treatment?
I am unable to answer your question regarding lymphoma, but your Hubbie's oncologist or cancer nurse should be able to, do you have a number you can call for them?
I understand how worrying a time this can be, my husband was OC with Mets diagnosed May 2020. Already feels like a lifetime ago, I wish your Hubbie every success with his journey.
