Hi all. I started my treatment on Friday for t3n1mo squamous cell. I gave cistoplatin iv then capacitibine orally twice daily. I have always had problems swallowing tablets so I have to dissolve them in water. They taste so bad, makes me want to vomit. I have been putting the liquid down my peg tube. Then flushing it well. Does anyone know if this is an acceptable way to take them?
Hi Graeme
I'm able to eat. I'm lucky. I'm unable to swallow tablets as a long term issue. When the tablets are dissolved the liquid makes me feel so ill.
I have got a masticating juicer which I use a lot and intend on using more so if eating becomes difficult.
This is a crap disease. Xx
Hi Luu77,
I was absolutely sure I'd sent another reply for you.
I had another idea that may help.
If you like or can tolerate ginger beer, put some in a jug so it goes flat, totally flat.
Before putting these horrible tablets through the PEG tube, use a large syringe & put a couple of ginger beers through the PEG. Or even drink a glass. Try to have at least 200ml of the ginger beer. Then wait for 15 minutes & put the tablets through the PEG.
Ginger in any form is great at combatting sickness. IT HAS TO BE FLAT, NO FIZZ, because fizzy can damage the tube & the retaining balloon.
Give it a try, it could be your answer.
Now, where did my last message go, I remember quoting " crap disease".
Best wishes,
Graeme.
