Hi everyone, iam new here. My uncle has just been diagnosed and we have an appointment on Tues to discuss next steps. They are unsure if he will be fit for the operation although he seemed to pass the assessment. He has a condition that may not agree with chemotherapy but we will find out next week. It is hard as he has a learning disability but at same time he doesn't really understand how serious it is yet as we are trying to keep him calm and talk about it in stages. We have very little family support as small family so it's all a bit overwhelming! The team looking after him have been amazing. So glad to have found a group as I an trying to support my mum on my own
Hi Bella,
Try to get a hospice nurse through your GP. They deal with all manner of difficult problems, they are absolutely wonderful. And the word hospice does not mean last port of call, it's all changed. They support you by visiting you at home, then they make a plan of action for you. It would greatly help you as you like me have a small family. Honestly, it's the best thing I have done for both me & my mum. (Just 2 of us ).
Best wishes to you all,
Graeme.
Thank you so much Graeme. I am trying to get as much support as I can because I don't know what the outcome is going to be. The cancer is nowhere else which is good news but it is the doubts over the operation and whether he can receive treatment with his condition. With very little family it is hard. I wish your mum all the best
