End of life

In Oct 23 my mum was first diagnosed with GBM4 and received surgery which removed 90%. In Dec 24 she had 15 rounds of radiotherapy and was on TMZ each month to Sep. The MRI scan showed a new growth and received Lomustine until start of Dec 24 where the oncologist confirmed the worst news that tumour had grown to approximately 5cm. Due to location it was inoperable and advised of end of life care.

In January my mum deteriorated further losing all mobility in her left side - she always had a left sided weakness but could walk about. She started having seizures and more recently she coughs/retches a lot. Yesterday when she coughed there was blood which the dr said was due to a tear in her throat. I haven’t read anything about this before, has anyone had similar experience?

I'm a nervous wreck with this horrible disease.

  • Hi McKat

a warm welcome to the online community. So sorry to hear about all that's going on with your mum. Life's too cruel for words at times.

I supported my late husband G through the 3 years of his GBM journey. Towards the end he did struggle with swallowing and would choke easily. If your mum is coughing/retching a lot its understandable that there could be a tear or a burst blood vessel. Be guided though by what the medical team are telling you and if you have concerns, no matter how trivial, ask. There's no such thing as a silly question. If its preying on your mind, ask about it.

This is a safe and supportive space so please reach out here anytime. There's always someone about to listen who gets it, someone to hold your hand and to offer a virtual hug when its needed. You're not alone. We've got you.
