We sadly lost my husband yesterday afternoon after approximately 18 months from diagnosis of grade 4 glioblastoma. He stopped eating and drinking about 2 months ago and was getting weaker and weaker. The last few days it became difficult to give his medication via syringe. Yesterday we noticed his breathing had changed and had called the GP for advise. We were forever having to ring various teams for advise if something happened but we never received proper palliative care. We were advised to call for an ambulance if we were concerned. They arrived whilst I was still on the 999 call. They advised he probably only had hours possibly days left. The nurse practitioner came out from our GP surgery and was absolutely brilliant with him. She had seen him at various stages of his illness and stayed with us until the end which wasn’t long after she arrived. He had decided a long time ago that he wanted to donate his body to science so today we had to fast track the paperwork so that we could register his death so he can be moved from the funeral directors on Monday. Our first grandchild was due last week but she decided to come 3 weeks early so he did get to meet and hold her even though his eyesight had gone. We took loads of photos for when she is older. We are still going to get the results of his final MRI next week just as closure as we need to know if the tumour had one back.he may have had a seizure or even a stroke in his last days but now he is free and we can begin to rebuild our lives.
I'm so sorry to read this but it's lovely that he got to hold his baby granddaughter before he died.
From experience, it will take quite some time to get over just the shock of what you've been through.

so sorry for your loss but relieved to hear he met your grand daughter and is now no longer suffering. Please be gentle with yourselves over the coming days/ weeks but I'm sure having the new baby around will keep everyone going.
