My grandson is 10 yo, diagnosed with stage 4 Astrocytoma + gliomatosis-cerebri.  This is very similar to a glioblastoma.  He has just completed proton beam radiation.  This is a very aggressive tumor with no protocols that have been successful to date.  We are actively seeking pediatric clinical trials.

We consulted a naturopathic oncologist today.  We are doing everything we can to increase my grandson's event-free time before the tumor starts to regrow.  The ND has suggested the following protocol.  I am seeking feedback on this.  Is there anything harmful or clinically detrimental?

Thank you in advance for any feedback.

  • Ultima Replenisher - 1 serving daily
  • Immune
    • Immune Extra (pine cone extract)
      • 1 in the morning (next 12 days)
      • 1 in the evening
    • Imm Kine (lactobacillus extract + Beta 1,3 glucan)
    • Cytozyme Thy (Neonatal Thymus concentrate (bovine))
      • 1 at bedtime
      • In 16 days increase to 2 at bedtime
    • Melatonin (3 mg at bedtime, may increase the dose over time)

  • Consider
    • IV Vitamin C
      • 40.5 kg
      • 1.5 grams/kg-squared
      • start at 10 grams over 1 hour
      • Until we have G6PD, then we move towards 1.5g/kg
    • IV curcumin
      • Next month after more time to recover from RT
  • Hi  and welcome to the online community

I'm very sorry to hear about your grandson's diagnosis. It must be devastating for the whole family and it's natural to want to try anything you can to help him.

As none of us are medically qualified, just people or relative with cancer, it's unlikely that anyone in the group will have the necessary knowledge to know if there is anything harmful or clinically detrimental in your list. The best person to ask would be your grandson's consultant at the hospital where he's being treated.

You may find this information from Macmillan on alternative therapies helpful.

You could also post your question in ask a nurse and one of the specialist cancer nurses will respond within 2 working days.
