I posted earlier this week ( thank you for your replies)and am just getting used to the forums and blogs - so hope I am posting in the right place. I know every case is different - but can anyone give their experience of how long they waited between first round of treatment ( chemo& radio) and the start of the next.I have had surgery for Glioblastoma removal and now I am half way through 30 fractions and complete this on December 10th. DO they let your body take a rest between treatments??? However future planning ( as you all know) is like guessing how long a piece of string is!!!! I am currently in one country, but am thinking of returning to my home country ( Newcastle in UK) and trying to plan a little.....
Any advice or experiences appreciated.
Venice 21
Hi Venice 21, my wife had a month off between chemo/radio and the 5/23 TMZ chemo regime. As far as I remember they also did an MRI before starting 5/23 as a 'baseline'. (BTW 5/23 = 5 days temozolomide, 23 days off for 6 or 12 months). So sorry you're facing this. Good luck with your decisions. x
I started my “30 days” …sounds like a prison sentence… on 4 oct and finished 15 Nov, dancing gleefully out of the radiotherapy centre waving my mask!
I now have an MRI on the 6 Dec, see consultant on the 9th and start my chemo again on the 13th. I understand this is then 6 months at 5 days a month. Stronger dose but no more radio.
I was told its fine to fly but the travel insurance isnt cheap!
HI
After G completed the initial 6 weeks of treatment they left him for a couple of months before mentioning the opportunity to take further chemo, TMZ. He was told it would be roughly double the dose of TMZ that was used during the 6 weeks and would be 5 days of TMZ then 23 rest days and repeat for 6 months. He declined so I can't comment further. The Dr did say it could be timed around planned trips etc.
This is a safe and supportive space so I'm confident some of the others will be along shortly to share their experiences.
love n hugs
