Hi, how do people cope with the ongoing challenges of GBM? Its just so tough, I know any illness is tough but this one because it changes the personality and the person is just something else, its the most horrific illness and soul destroying for family watching their loved one go through this. My hubby (now 52, diagnosed Sept 22) finished 6 month TMZ and a trial in April/May for a recurrence, the most recent scan is not clear and there could be something going on, next option is to start Limoustine in 2 weeks after scan has been reviewed. Does anyone have experience of this and has anyone had any success with private treatments? Best wishes to all dealing with this x
Hi Dayby Day,
I am really sorry to hear about your husband and your current situation. I lost to my husband to this horrific disease eight months ago so can fully empathise with what you are going through at the moment. You are right: it is tough! You keep going, coping with increasingly difficult symptoms, because there is no choice. You do cope; you will cope.
My husband had a recurrent tumour in an inoperable site, at which point he was scheduled for 6 cycles of 3 chemotherapy drugs, one of which was Limoustine. He only managed two of the six cycles. The taking of the drugs themselves posed no problem; he tolerated them well. It was his rapid deterioration generally, which caused the cessation of treatment.
I can’t comment, I’m sorry on any private treatments. In our case time ran out for us. I hope someone else can respond to you about their experiences in due course.
Wishing you and your husband all the best.
Ax
Sorry I can't answer your questions but yes it is so tough. Each stage is so different and like you say your loved one has changed so much. We went to see a consultant in London who also works at King's. He explained options (for us not many) but I felt better knowing we had looked into everything. It stopped me having to keep searching. Thinking of you x
