I am waiting for a trial dissection operation in 2 weeks just wondering if anyone else has had this. They carried out a laparoscopy and biopsies showed clear. They are taking gallbladder bile duct and little bit of li er as a precaution
Hi Amandas
I'm not a member of this group but I noticed that your post hadn't had any replies yet. Responding to you will 'bump' it back to the top of the discussion list again.
Wishing you all the best with your operation.
Anne
Hi there, I had open surgery to remove gallbladder and section of liver in Sept 2025. Results showed it was a Stage 2 cancer in the gallbladder. Initial recovery was very tough but generally recovery has gone very well. I am now on 6 months adjuvant chemotherapy tablets to reduce the risk of anything coming back. I wish you well with your surgery and don't hesitate to ask if you have questions you think I or someone else in the group could help with.
Thank you very much for your kind reply much appreciated
Hi louD99 thank you for your reply. It has lifted my spirits to be honest. I am so scared. Ive only ever had 3 laparosvopys in my life time and they were scarey enough. This is a whole different level. I am going in on 12th february. Do yiu have any tips for me to prepare for the surgery please.
Hi Amandas, hopefully laparoscopic surgery will be an easier recovery for you. I think the best advice I can give is to be kind to yourself, listen to your body and ensure (as far as you can) that you have people to look after you following the surgery. Trust in the medics and listen to their advice. I was in ICU following my surgery but they still had me up and walking about (very gingerly) on the day after my op. I had a very tough day on the 4th day after the op when all the anaesthetic has left your body and the reality of the recovery kicks in. But nevertheless getting the op done and focusing on recovery is far better than the all the waiting and worrying beforehand.
.
Hi thank you very much for getting back to me. My surgeon has said i will be having open surgery same as i believe you had. I under went a laparoscopy on 16th january to check it hadnt spread anywhere else which and thank goodness it had not.
I appreciate your advice. It is just the unknown that is worrying me.
I hope you are well now. I will let you know how i get on.
The unknown is definitely the worst part. I'm sorry I misunderstood and that you are having open surgery same as me. I was quite surprised by the size/length of the wound but it has healed well and now I'm quite proud of it ! It is definitely a major op, so make sure you take all the time (and all the pain meds) you need to recover from it. I'm sure the hospital will take great care of you and I look forward to hearing how you are once you are in recovery.
Hi im pleased to say my operatiin was very successful. Surgeon believes he was able to remove all the cancer. He took the gallbladder and some of my liver, he left the bile duct. I am still waiting on the histology but he thinks i will be going for chemo therapy as a preventative.
Hi Amandas, so good to hear from you and to hear that everything went well. Hope you are taking recovery slowly. It sounds a very similar procedure and outcome to me. I am now 5 rounds through my preventative chemo and so far have not had very many side effects. It's another daunting thought but I decided it was best to do everything possible to stay healthy for the future ️
