I was told on Tuesday 5th august that I have gallbladder cancer that has metastised to my liver, Iv to have a liver biopsy on the 21st august.
is it very painful to have biopsy done.
consultant said he couldn’t do anything for me as it’s late stage.
my head is all over the place.

  • Hi Lolaskola,

I'm sorry to hear your news, it's a devastating diagnosis. I haven't had a biopsy of my liver but I have had other biopsies on my neck for thyroid cancer and they were uncomfortable rather than painful.

I have stage 4 Metastatic gallbladder cancer as well but my story is unusual. I was diagnosed back in 2016 but mine hadn't spread at that point and I had surgery followed by a liver resection operation and 6 months of chemotherapy. Mine did metastasise in 2020 but further surgery and chemotherapy has kept it at bay for now.

Have you been given a clinician nurse specialist? They are wonderful and can answer a lot of your questions and also give you some support too.

I'm sorry I'm not much use to you answering your question but I just wanted you to know you're not alone.

  • Same with me, had a heptobiliary doctor talk to me whilst i was recovering from biopsy, in a ward and with no one with me she spoke about liver cancer and chemo, where everyone could hear and I couldn’t take it in. Totally inappropriate behaviour whilst I was in pain.

  • I met with the nurse who will deal with me, no emotional support and no empathy she was with the doctor and seemed to there for her not me. Do you know if I could get another nurse?
