Hi,was recently diagnosed with FL in January, had some slow growth and a lot stage 4 advanced, also I have plural effusion which is caused by the lymphoma had chest drains and taps ect,it's now doing ok since chemo started, just wondering if anyone else had this with follicular. And how are you doing down the line.thank you for reading.

  • Thanks for sharing—really appreciate your openness. Yes, pleural effusion isn’t uncommon with FL, especially at stage 4. I’ve seen others in the community go through similar experiences, and many report that things improve significantly after a few chemo cycles, just like you’re starting to see. Hoping your progress continues steadily. On another note, if you're ever sharing updates or connecting with others, tools like a digital business card can be helpful—it lets you track interactions and see who’s viewing your card, which is a subtle but useful way to stay connected and informed.

  • Hi,thanks for replying. I was just wondering if anyone else whoes had this pleural effusion had come back when treatment had finished  I'm hoping it doesn't as that was the worst part they literally took litres usually about 3 at a time.

  • Hi  and  a warm welcome to this corner of the Community.

I am Mike and I help out around our various Lymphoma groups. I don’t have Follicular Lymphoma but I was diagnosed way back in 1999 at 43 with a rare (8 in a million) incurable but treatable type of Cutaneous T-Cell NHL (a type of slow growing Low-grade non-Hodgkin lymphoma) ……. eventually reaching Stage 4a in late 2013 when a second, also rare (4 in a million) type of aggressive Peripheral T-Cell NHL (a type of fast growing High-grade non-Hodgkin lymphoma) was then presenting so although my Lymphoma ‘type’ is different I most definitely appreciate the challenges of this journey rather well.

Yes unfortunately plural effusion can happen.... not just with FL but with many of the 60 types and sub-types of Lymphoma..... things tend to improve as treatment goes on so let's look for this not to continue to be a problem.
