Please could someone recommend a good web site to buy head coverings as I start treatment on Monday which will lead to hair loss.  I am very apprehensive how to cope with this

  • Hi  and welcome to the community.

Hair loss is one of the challenges and some folks handle it better than others I lost my hair three times over my treatment but did not have a problem with this part of the journey.

Lets see if some from the group can help you out.

You could call our Macmillan Support Services as it provides lots of information, support, financial guidance or just a listening ear.

Most services are open 8am to 8pm, 7 days a week and it's free to call on 0808 808 00 00 have a look by Clicking here to see what is available and we also have our Ask an Expert section, but do allow two working days for replies from our expert team.

Here is a link so some info on hair loss.

  • Hi Venezia,

I have several head coverings but my favourite is by Christine, a Danish company. I like their Yoga Turban, which is not a turban but a hat. It's made of bamboo and very soft. I have two in different colours. I got mine on the Trendco website but I'm sure you can get them elsewhere.

Don't be worried about losing your hair, it will come back after treatment. Mine is coming through as a soft fuzzy layer Slight smile

When mine started coming out (it was quite long), I didn't want to find hairs everywhere and blocking the drains, so I regularly brushed it to encourage it to come out. Once I knew it was going to come out with treatment, it was less of a big deal really.

Best of luck with your treatment.

    Thanks for  this info,

I shall certainly take a look.

when I was first told I would lose my hair I was devastated .,.,, stupid as there are a lot more important things to worry about and quite vain.

I have now come to terms with it and decided to embrace the shopping experience.

having started on steroids before my first cycle of chemo it has made such a difference to pain level I am feeling optimistic that all this will pay dividends

i do hope you are doing well with your treatment.

    all good wishes and thanks

    Hi Joy

I was feeling very down when I last replied so kept it short

i am so pleased to hear your hair is emerging so you must have completed your therapy .

i have reconciled myself and gone on line to Trendco and bought several turbans.
it feels less terrible now I have in a way taken back control.

I send you all good wishes and once again thank you for so kindly responding

Your feelings are not stupid, we all react differently to our diagnoses. I have now finished my treatment and my hair is growing back. Good luck with the treatment and hope shopping goes well.

  • That's really good to know Venezia, all the very best, and feeling in control of something (however small) certainly helps as we are all on a bit of a rollercoaster ride here! And I hate rollercoasters!
