Hello
I was diagnosed with follicular lymphoma last Sept. Ive recently had xray and mri on my left shin bone as had pain for a very long time and its been masked by my osteoarthritis.
Today my CNS called me with results of my biopsy which shows diffused large b cell lymphoma! Im sooo shocked, scared, numb, i cant believe it and probably had it all this time. PET scan was only down to my thighs so wasnt caught last July.
I see my heamatologist tomorrow and been told i start treatment in a few wks. I dont know what to expect and im very anxious about having the chemo. Any advice would be much appreciated. Thank you.
Hi Rosie30 sorry to hear your news.
This is actually not that unusual for someone with FL to develop DLBCL……. or their FL to transform into DLBCL.
Unlike your FL that us a slow growing Low-grade non-Hodgkin lymphoma…….. DLBCL is a fast growing High-grade non-Hodgkin lymphoma but very treatable……
Although I had 2 different types of slow and fast growing T-Cell NHL it was most certainly treatable with me now being 9+ years out from my last treatment and living a great life.
Have you been told the actual name of the treatment?….. often shown as a set of initials like R-CHOP.
((Hugs))
Hi Mike
My CNS mentioned RCHOP but said she wasnt sure till i see the heamatologist tomr. I will let you know tomorrow at some point.
Many thanks
Rosie
Asking the correct questions is very important so this link will help.
Questions to ask your medical team about Lymphoma
R-CHOP is one of many types of regimes available, it is widely used and very effective......... as for the journey?.... if we line up 10 people on the same treatment for the same NHL we will get 10 different stories...... as the Side Effects of Treatments can be ever so different.
My great CNS initial words were “……Mike you can read all the information available and then start to catastrophise that every side effect that you have read about will happen but the reality is very often rather different….. take each day as it comes, celebrate the good days, endure the not so good day”…… and she was spot on.
I had the big brother of R-CHOP - R-EPOCH back in late 2013/2014 and honestly I did well during it all and this was with me having 6 cycles that had me in hospital 6 nights/5 days on my 2 IV pumps 24/7 for over 120hrs each treatment........ R-CHOP is nothing like this
Hi Mike
Yes it looks like im going on the R-CHOP. But my heamatologist is having an MDT meeting on Tues so will know more then. In the meantime im having an urgent PET scan and heart scan before i start treatment. Thank you so much for your advice.
